My Obsession Linky Party

I am joining up with Bonnie from Living a Wonderful Life for her first linky party -  I Have a Confession. . .This Is My Obsession. Here are the things that I am currently obsessing over:

1.  McDonald's sweet tea and chocolate chip cookies.  I know about the calories.  I know about the fat.  I know about the sugar but honestly for now - I DON'T CARE !!!  If you live anywhere in the south you can probably appreciate a good sweet tea, and let me tell you this one is GOOOOOOD.  For one measly little dollar you too can sip this sweet nectar.  While you are at Mickey D's be sure to try some of their chocolate chip cookies.  You get 3 for $1.00 and trust me, that is a deal for these chewy, chocolaty, yumminess.
Sweet tea might just be a Southern thing but ohh is it good ya'll

Tip: I order mine without ice so I can get more and then I add ice when I get home

2.  The one and only Dollar Tree.  Now don't get me wrong, I love all the dollar spots at Michael's, Target, Joanne's etc. but there is no substitute for the Dollar Tree.  Seriously. . . everything for $1.00, what teacher doesn't love that????
3. Now come on,  I think we all know what the last obsession for me is.  O.k. I'll give you a hint -  give me a P. . . give me an I . . . give me a N. . . give me a T E R E S T.  Put them all together and what do you have???  PINTEREST PINTEREST PINTEREST!!!!!!!!  If you don't believe I am truly obsessed then click on my boards over on the side and you'll see what I mean.  I think I have a problem, does anyone know of a support group for pinners?

So there you go, a little sneak peek into my CRAZED, OBSESSED life.  Until later. . . I'm off to pin something.

Fun in the Sun + Award Time

So here it is, that time of year. . . one of the most stressful times for all teachers.  We have assessments, parent conferences, deadlines, meetings, planning, paperwork, cranky kids, cranky teachers so what should any teacher do at this time of the year???  My answer - go on a cruise for a week to the Bahamas!!!! I know, I know, I can't believe I did it either but it was SOOOOOO worth it.

In my defense this was the only time of the year that my best friend and her family could go on their family vacation so when she asked if I wanted to join them I said count me in.  Also, keep in mind that I only took ONE DAY OFF all school year and that was to attend a workshop so I think I deserved a break.  A HUGE shout out to my partners in crime friends Hall, Hinson and Lewis for their help keeping my school/personal life together while I was gone. Also big thanks to my principal for giving me permission to take my pre-summer break.

When I came back I was so excited to see that I won my very first award.

A very special thank you to Sara from Miss Elementary and to Jenny from Fantastic Fun In First Grade for giving me this award.  I love both of their blogs so be sure to swing by and check them out.  I promise to go back and follow the rules of this award but right now I have a gazillion things to do to get ready for school. . . did I mention I was gone on vacation for a week and only have NINE DAYS LEFT IN THE YEAR??!??!??  I need to get to work and stop blog hopping  checking my emails.

Summer Bucket List Linky Party

I am joining up with April, Teri and Hadar for my VERY FIRST LINKY PARTY.  This summer I have so many things I want to accomplish:

  1. Organize, organize, organize is the very first thing on my list.  Anyone who has seen my classroom would think I'm sometimes a little OCD but . . . my house is out of control.  Summer is going to be a time for cleaning and purging half of the things in my house.
  2. Get healthy.  That includes eating right, cooking and even - wait for it. . . wait for it. . . working out.
  3. Go on vacation. Come on, this is one of my favorite perks of being a teacher.
  4. Complete some of my Pinterest projects.  So many great ideas, so little time (check out my boards by clicking over on the right if you don't believe me).  My goal this summer is to complete at least 20 things that I have pinned.
  5. RELAX by spending time with family and friends.  That my blogging friends is what it's all about!
Thankfully I only have 19 days left until I can start on this list (can I get a woop, woop??!!??)

Alphabet Songs

Have you heard about the Alphabet Songs from Have Fun Teaching.com???  If you haven't heard of them yet then head over to their site ASAP (click here).  These songs and videos are awesome and my kids LOVE THEM!!!! They have a song for every letter of the alphabet and each song has its own unique beat with adorable pictures.  Below is one of my kids favorite videos (they really loved the zombie picture).

While you are on their site, be sure to check out the other videos they have listed.  My kids are always asking to see the counting and sight words videos.  One more tip - if you have Pinterest be sure to follow them because they are always sending out downloadable FREEBIES to use in your class.

I promise you, these videos will change your teaching forever...ENJOY!

P.S.  If you blog about these videos you can get a set for free.  Thanks Mrs. Stanford for that great tip.

Whew! What a day!!!

I can't believe what a great blog hopping day it was.  My dishes are piled up, no school work was completed and my laundry is in a heap but who cares??!!  It was well worth it.

A very special thank you to April from a modern teacher for coordinating the Pk-2 portion of this hop.  You can find April's blog here.  I can only imagine the amount of hours behind the scenes that had to go into helping plan an event like this, THANK YOU! Another special thank you to all of the wonderful teachers for sharing their TPT items with us for free.  Every item that I downloaded was exceptional.  I can't wait to use some of these items in my room.

This was a fantastic way to start Teacher Appreciation Week...see you same time, same place next year.

Remember the Reason - Post #1

Meetings, deadlines, interim report cards, meetings, assessments, PLC's, planning, meetings, teaching, emails, oh and then did I mention...I have a meeting to go to?  You can tell that it is getting close to the end of the year.  Today was yet another frantic, crazy, jam packed day.  On days like these sometimes I have been known to forget to eat.  In the middle of this mad, mad day something happened that made me realize I need to slow down, take a breath and remember why I still love my job.

As I was walking one of my students to P.E. class she started to tell me story after story about...actually I have no idea what she was saying.  I was half listening to her and half thinking about the unanswered emails I had waiting on my computer once I got back to the classroom.  Anyway, I looked down at her as she rambled on and on continued her story and I just blurted out "Child H.  I love you".  She replied without missing a beat..."I know".  Which really startled me and then I said "Really, how do you know that". She replied "Because you're my teacher".

This little moment in the day touched my heart and made me remember...this is why I became a teacher.  Emails, paper work, assessments, blah, blah, blah.  To me the important thing is that this child is leaving my room at the end of kindergarten knowing that someone else in this world loves her.  Tomorrow if  when I'm stressed out again I'm going to take a moment, look at my students and remember they are the reason I do this job.
